FishChoice Supplier Member
We are the retail brand of Altamar Foods Corporation, who has been a proud FishChoice Supplier Member since 2019. As a FishChoice Supplier Member, our company is part of a seafood community of like-minded businesses, NGOs, and others who are committed to advancing seafood sustainability. We accomplish this primarily through the FishChoice platform by having seafood product source information publicly available and transparent in its origin as well as identifying the current sustainability status of our seafood products.
FishChoice Members
FishChoice partners with the leading global organizations that rate and certify seafood based on its environmental sustainability. FishChoice matches our product sources with that information and updates us when that information changes so we can make sure our staff and customers have the most current information readily available. The platform is becoming the most in-depth resource for seafood company and product information available online with sustainability data covering an estimated 700 species and over 4,000 sources of wild and farmed seafood.
FishChoice is a registered 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit founded in 2008 that is dedicated to helping businesses advance their seafood sustainability efforts on their own. FishChoice creates tools and provides resources that make it easier for businesses to buy and sell sustainable seafood. FishChoice.com is the flagship platform developed by FishChoice that offers businesses several tools to advance their sustainable seafood sourcing, tracking, education, engagement, and more.

Sustainable Seafood Policy
Altamar Foods Corporation believes in the critical role we play in ensuring our products are sourced in ways that consider the protection of harvested species and the health of our oceans for generations to come. We believe in providing our customers with high quality and healthy seafood options that are sourced sustainably.
Sourcing Strategy
We commits to source and sell environmentally and socially responsible seafood with the goal of annually increasing the sourcing of wild caught and farmed seafood products from fisheries and aquaculture operations that improve environmental performance over time. We rely on the following certifications and ratings to inform our sourcing practices:
-
A certification benchmarked and recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI).
-
Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Best Choice and Good Alternative ratings.
In addition, we commit to working with our suppliers in sourcing and supporting fisheries and aquaculture farms that are in a path towards improvement:
-
Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) that meet the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions FIP guidelines for basic or comprehensive FIPs and are listed, and in good standing, in fisheryprogress.org
-
Aquaculture Improvement Projects (AIPs) that have clear objectives and timelines, a baseline needs assessment, a work plan, and a mechanism for publicly reporting progress on a regular basis.

Data Collection and Traceability
Altamar Foods Corporation recognizes that traceability in our supply chains is essential for ensuring that our seafood is from legal and verifiable sources. We are committed to continue working with Trace Register and our vendors to implement industry’s best practices in traceability.

Key Partners
We will continue participating in Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) Supplier roundtables and as a FishChoice Supplier Member, our company is part of a seafood community of like-minded businesses, NGOs, and others who are committed to advancing seafood sustainability. We also signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Peru to join the Mahi-Mahi FIP in this country. Peru’s Mahi Mahi fishery supports 4,200 fishermen and serves as a key link in the marine food chain, providing food for sharks, dolphins, and other ocean predators. It is also a leading source of the world’s Mahi Mahi and, like Ecuador, a top exporter to the United States.
